What is Heimdall Cloud?

Heimdall Cloud is a grid monitoring web application based on data from neurons - IoT sensors that continuously monitor the condition of the power grid. Heimdall Cloud can be a powerful tool for real-time monitoring of power lines, including the line's sag, clearance, current, temperature, and capacity. Heimdall Cloud also supports capacity forecasting for the dynamic operation of powerline assets.

High-Level Structure

Heimdall Power follows best-practices for domain-driven development, and Heimdall Cloud has been designed to be recognizable and intuitive for operators, grid planners, and other roles working in TSOs/DSOs.

Navigating Heimdall Cloud happens through either the Grid View or through one of the sidebars. The main side-bar, seen to the right, allows you to navigate to:

Grid View - Grid view provides a birds-eye view of your overhead line network and is used to monitor a high volume of line assets in real-time, providing information about which assets that needs your attention through our events-system.

Grid Monitoring (Archived) - Grid Monitoring provides you with a list of all monitored lines. Here, some extra information about latest measurements and forecasted DLR is shown.

The expandable sidebar contains a list of all the monitored lines with its spans. This can be opened directly to select a line. Selecting a line takes you to the Line Monitoring page. On the line monitoring page you can easily navigate down to specific spans under the respective line to go in depth with your analysis. Each line also contains four separate pages that can be selected via the tabs at the top of the dashboard. These are:

1. Line Monitoring - The line monitoring module provides you with insight into the real-time condition and historical performance of a specific power line.

2. Line Forecasting (Archied) - The line forecasting module provides accurate and statistically valid ampacity and temperature forecasts for monitored lines.

3. Ice Monitoring (Archived) - The ice detection module provides you, as an operator, with the ability to accurately monitor and analyse icing events on power lines.

4. Vibrations - The vibration page provides you with insight into the movement of the line, and large events and external forces working on the power line.

Rules & Events (Archived) - Heimdall Cloud allows you to set rules that will trigger events based on data from monitored power lines.

Settings (Archived) - The settings page allows you to view and edit line information such as operational limits and display names.

1. Invite the organization! Heimdall Cloud is collaborative in the sense that it can be used by multiple people and roles in the organization. By setting thoughtful rules and custom alerts, Heimdall Cloud can be used both to alert users about events in the grid and to gather useful statistics over time.

2. Familiarize yourself with the line dashboards. Understand how data is aggregated in Heimdall Cloud and what you can learn from line monitoring and forecasting.

3. Talk to your colleagues and agree on thoughtful rules and event triggers that can be used to solve challenges and increase learning about asset performance for your grid. This will provide your organization with a foundation of knowledge on which to build data-driven planning and operational decisions.

4. Customize operational limits and custom identifiers for your lines & spans in the settings page to match with existing limits.
